The ‘CORE’ of the Matter

Roxy will be starting her FUNdamentals class series in August and we were chatting about the CORE module, which prompted me to jot down some thoughts about what that means exactly.

One of the misconceptions I hear is that we should be “sucking in” or tightening the abdominals in a protective manner. In reality, a good stiff core involves a dance between controlled intra-abdominal pressure and a muscular brace. In this event, we see expansion of the trunk, not a collapse.

A narrow, hollowed tree trunk is less likely to withstand damaging forces than a thick tree trunk.
