FAQ

WHAT DO I WEAR?

For Aerial Hoop or Mobility classes, please wear comfortable workout clothes that aren’t too bulky. You are welcome to bring leg warmers or tall socks if you want the back of your knees covered until they become desensitized to the hoop.

Please leave your shoes at the door, and take off any rings, bracelets or watches as they can hurt you and damage the equipment.
Be sure to bring a water bottle! It’s hard work, and we want you to be hydrated!

WHERE DO I START?

Your first class with either be “Intro to Hoop” or “Level 1”. If you have previous experience, (or want individual training) you can book a private lesson to have your skills assessed and then placed in the level you are best suited to.
Group classes are currently ages 18+, and private sessions are ages 14+.
Please note- you must join a Levelled class at the START of the level (1 of 6), unless you have contacted us and we have made an alternate plan together.

WHAT IF I’M NOT STRONG ENOUGH?

“I don’t have the upper body strength for that”, “I’m too uncoordinated/old/out of shape/etc.”, “I’ll try it after I’ve begun working out”.

I can assure you, we have heard EVERY excuse or reasoning in the book for people to talk themselves out of aerials. The hard truth is, you’ll never get strong enough, or coordinated enough until you START. Everyone starts in the same place. Our curriculums are engineered to ensure you are slowly, but consistently building up your strength every session.

“Learn to let yourself be bad at something, long enough to get better at it.”

DO I NEED TO FILL OUT A WAIVER?

No waiver = no class. It is an absolute must. We will not be sharing your information at all, and photos on our page/social medias will only be with the participants consent.

HEALTH CONCERNS

Please let us know of any health concerns, injuries or conditions before your first class, and ongoing through your sessions. We always have modifications, but we need to know what we can/can’t do with you first!

IS HOOP ONLY FOR WOMEN?

No. Absolutely not.
While some facets of aerial sports have a majority of female athletes, it is open to anyone. Circus arts have an impressive background of all genders, ethnicities, and abilities. All you need is the right attitude, and the willingness to learn (and endurance to build up some callouses).

CAN MY PARTNER/FRIENDS/KIDS COME AND WATCH?

Short answer- no.

Long answer- For safety and insurance purposes, we cannot have additional people on the floor with an aerials class running. While we do have an open gym concept at Martinson Health, not everyone may be comfortable with an audience watching intently.
If you’d like to show off your skills to your audience, or just want more privacy, we encourage you to book a private, then the floor/ceiling is yours!

UHMM, WILL THIS FALL OUT OF THE CEILING?!

No.
The roof and structures we rig from have all been checked and signed off on by a Structural Engineer to ensure they are safe and can take the loads we put on them.

All of our rigging is very safe and very strong. Equipment is only allowed to get 10% wear before it is changed out. Safety checks are done routinely, and we will also let you know how to keep yourself and the equipment safe.

I MISSED ONE OF MY LEVELED CLASSES, NOW WHAT?!

Don’t panic. We review all of our moves in the next class (Level 1&2), so you will have an opportunity to learn it all. We do require you to make at least 4 of the 6 sessions, for you own strength building, knowledge and safety. If you are going to be missing most of a session, (2+ classes), a private can be booked to fill you in, or you are welcome to attend a practice drop-in to catch up.

WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY BEFORE THE CLASS?

We require all participants to register and pay before the class to hold their spot. Not only is this for attendance, but we want to ensure someone isn’t missing out on a class they wanted to be in, because another didn’t show up to a spot they signed up for.
